About this Consult:
Julie is the mother of three children under 5 years old. She is also a Health Professional and national level competitive rower.
Julie had a sacroiliac joint separation injury in the past while rowing. She feels it is managed well, although it does give her episodes of pain that limit her mobility. She also has leg length discrepancy and a strong preference with standing on her left leg.
With her first birth she had grade 4 vaginal tearing, hemorrhoids and posterior wall prolapse which took over 3 months after birth to heal. These returned during and after her second vaginal birth. Julie also experienced significant vulvar varicosities during her second pregnancy.
Julie had an emergency cesarean birth with her third and the hemorrhoids and rectocele persisted. These heartbreakingly limited Julie from playing with and carrying her two previous children.
At around 6 months post partum, Julie started running to support a friend through some hard times. Surprisingly she found this drastically improved her symptoms. Julie’s symptoms are aggravated every morning when carrying her youngest. So now at 1 year post partum with her third, running is the only way she can find to manage her symptoms – but she can’t always get out for a run.
Julie thinks she is gripping through the pelvis and glutes, trying to hold things in. She finds it difficult to let go without a run or find time to do any core rebalancing exercises.
These symptoms really limit her interaction at home. Julie wants to be able to come home from work and not have to excuse herself from playing with her children in order to lay down and rest to resolve the hemorrhoid symptoms. She wants to be able to play with her children and lift them without symptoms or worry.
