About this Consult:
Maggie was a bi-annual marathon runner up until 5 years ago when she got shin splints and pain in the tibialis posterior region. She has not been able to return to distance running since.
Maggie was able to do Beach Body-type training through her pregnancy 4 years ago without pain. She attempted to return to running 4 months after birth and the same pain returned and limited her ability to return to running.
She had a 5-finger width diastasis which decreased to 3-finger width before she became pregnant with her second, and experienced left back, abdominal, pelvic and lower limb pain.
At the time of the consult, Maggie was 7 months post partum her second cesarean birth. She was unable to do body weight activities or run down the driveway after her eldest (now 3 years old) without pain.
She has seen numerous Physiotherapists and trainers, and undergone different treatments/approaches. These included dry needling, Women’s Pelvic Health protocols, functional core and return to running programs.
Maggie is frustrated with her lack of progress and her inability to address her concerns herself (as an Orthopedic Physiotherapist) or with the numerous therapists she sought out.
Maggie also identifies that distance running and working out with intensity is a really important stress management strategy for her.
How does Antony start to unravel and challenge some of the beliefs that Maggie has about her pain through the consult?
What does squatting, lifting and running look like for Maggie during the assessment?
How is Maggie doing a couple of months after the course and two years after the course?
