Sam's Consult

About this Consult:

Sam loves to dance and is doing Ballet; this is where she experiences her stress urinary incontinence – bladder leaking with repetitive, quick, high jumping.

Sam has had two children, both vaginally, with the youngest being 4 years old.

There is a lot of core and glute strengthening in her Barre and fitness classes, which she really enjoys and thinks have been helpful for her.

Sam is Women’s Health Physiotherapist, so she does pelvic floor muscle training occasionally when she is taking clients through their own exercises.

Sam had a prolapse post partum with her second and used a pessary for the first year after birth. She has chronic sacroiliac joint pain that she has had since a client fell on her 10 years ago.

Sam feels her pain has improved as she has gotten stronger and more stable. She now manages her pain by stretching for 1 hour after running once weekly.

She had an umbilical hernia and diastasis after her second birth – the hernia was repaired 7 weeks before this consult.

What movement patterns does Sam demonstrate in her assessment?

What strategies help her to improve her symptoms for bladder leaking and lower body tension by the end of the session?

How is Sam feeling 2.5 years after the consult?
